1. TORONTO RAPTORS
Lead by Carter who is assisted by their crazy starting five.. the Raptors are having an incredible start to their first NBSA season. Twenty four year old Carter is the obvious leader of the dog pack, with Alvin Williams or Eddie Jones being his side kick. When it comes to statistics, the Raptors have the best starting five in the entire league. Their depth is crazy, having a pretty nice bench too. Raptors are off to a Seven - One start, being the best team in the East by half a game. They should continue this success, as long as their starting five can continue to perform on this level.
2. SACRAMENTO KINGS
The Kings are lead by their deadly big man combination in Divac and O'Neal who are fed by star point guard Mike Bibby. Divac averages 21/11 and one steal a game along with two blocks. O'Neal averages 31/11 with .9 for both blocks and steals. While star one guard Bibby averages ten assists. Pretty deadly big three, making the Kings a force to be reckoned with. They are currently third seed in the east, but actually have the best winning percentage (875%) in the West.
3. PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS
The Blazers are lead by a nice forward combination in Rasheed Wallace and Jamaal Mashburn and defensive stud Marcus Camby. On paper, the Blazers are probably the best team in the league. They are a very old team, their average age being about twenty seven. But they have crazy talent, and should be a scary contender out in the West. They can remain the top of the East, especially with only four or five real contenders in the east that can compete with them.
4. LOS ANGELES LAKERS
The Lakers have the best big three in the league, in Davis, Nowitzki, and Bryant. They all average over twenty points a night and have a decent number in some other statistic. Outside of the big three they don't really have anything else other than Mehmet Okur and Scottie Pippen's defensive presence. Despite their current success, I predict that they will fall to about sixth seed. Spurs should be able to pass them soon enough, along with the Clippers. This is a bold prediction, but I just have the feeling it might happen.
5. DALLAS MAVERICKS
Lead by Shaq, Nash, and Finley the Mavericks are off to a surprising start. The NBSA community believed that they lost that Lakers trade, but the Nash - Shaq pick and roll combination is working out perfect for the Six - Two Dallas Mavericks. Then they have that scary outside shooter in Finley who is shooting fourty one percent behind the three point line which is incredible. The Mavericks easily have the best big three in the league. Shaquille averages 28/11, Nash averages 26/10 whilst Finley averages 24/7. They all also play amazing defense. Mavericks are quiet contenders in the West, and are the biggest surprise of the early start of the season.
There's your top five teams.
